A small bowl with two decorative fluted handles, typical of the alpine Savoie pottery region of France and probably dating from the late 19th century. Predominantly brick red with slipware swirls of cream, brown and green, this hand-painted marbled design is known as jaspé. For a very old item which would have been in daily use the condition is good, with no cracks or major chips and just some wear to the glaze on the rim and the interior. Measures approx 20cm from handle to handle and the interior diameter is 14.5cm. The height is 6.7cm. Weight is 394g.
