A small, hand-made terracotta milk or cream jug typical of the alpine Savoie pottery region of France and probably dating from the mid 19th century. Predominantly brick red and decorated with cream slipware dots and cream and brown lines. The little pitcher has all the hallmarks of a very old household piece which was in daily use, including small chips and wear on the rim, handles and base. Measures approx 9.5cm (3 3/4") high, 13.5cm (just over 5") max width from handle to spout and 8.5cm (3 1/3") base diameter. Capacity approx 300ml (10 fl oz), no leaks. Weight is 282g (approx 10oz).
