A small, hand-made terracotta milk or cream jug typical of the alpine Savoie pottery region of France and probably dating from the late 19th century. Predominantly brick red and decorated with cream, green and brown slipware in a marbled pattern known as jaspé. The little pitcher has all the hallmarks of a very old household piece which was in daily use, including small chips and wear on the rim, handles and base. The jug has one or two very fine hairline cracks but holds water OK. Measures approx 8.5cm high, 12cm max width from handle to spout and 8.5cm diameter otherwise. Capacity is approx 250m. Weight is 230g.
